“A brilliant and thought-provoking expedition into four human hearts torn not only from the recent events which shook the world to its deepest core, but also by simple actions that question the essence of an individual's sense of humanity. …I would say that this show is indeed important, as well as masterful and necessary for people to see.”

Providence Adrift

Set: a small boat

Providence Adrift is based on the true events of the survivors of the whaleship Essex after it was sunk by a white whale (the incident that inspired Moby Dick). It all takes place in a boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, set in a sort of eternal present with the characters inspired by the soldiers I’ve met while training with the US Army. Adrift at sea for almost 90 days, and on the brink of death, the men face cannibalism, madness, and ultimately, revelation.

-Originally developed with director Meghan Finn at
3-Legged Dog Art & Technology Center.

Saving the Greeks:
One Tragedy at a Time

Comedy
80-100 min

12-26 actors possible (5f, 7m)
Minimal sets

In an ambitious plan to bring peace to Ancient Greece, Dialysis and Peon create Betterland, a city where once-doomed tragic characters can start a better life. But this new society of refugees must face enemies and Gods who don't tolerate free will or utopian ideals. Weaving together the stories of Ancient Greek characters from Oedipus to Hercules, this hilarious reinvention of the classics asks the question, "Is it possible to escape your own fate?" (A one-act version of this play is also available.)

"A thoroughly enjoyable script filled with droll witticisms, amusing one-liners, and groaning wordplay... a breezy comedy full of laugh-out-loud merriment that pays homage to the melodramatic absurdity that is Greek tragedy. -Sean Michael O'Donnell, OffOffOnline

A post-9/11 coming-of-age story about a group of young men in Army Basic Training who suspect a fellow soldier of being a terrorist. Their reaction moves from doubt and taunting to increasing intolerance and to a final explosion of violence. Ultimately a study of the psychology of terrorism, the play examines the tension between groupthink and individuality, between rational and emotional reactions under duress, and between morality and immorality.

When I Had Three Sisters

a farce in four acts

Black Comedy
90 min
3m, 3f
Unit set

A young man with grandiose notions of being a famous theater director decides to stage a production or Chekov's Three Sisters in his living room—the only place theater is still real and alive—and if it’s good enough, he believes, the audiences are bound to find it. In the end, although their attempted staged Three Sisters is an utter failure, they end up acting  out a ridiculous version of the play’s plot in real life.

Originally developed in the The Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab 2010/2011, directed by Lila Neugebauer (Sarah Benson, Artistic Director).
